Tinnitus |
What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is the perception of abnormal sound whose location is within the body. The sound manifests itself in various forms, from a simple low
ringing in the ears, to a loud humming or worse. Tinnitus is not uncommon
What causes tinnitus?
There are many causes. Tinnitus is triggered and aggravated by many factors, one of which is certainly noise. Tinnitus can become a permanent
condition.
Danny from Embrace, a long-time supporter of Hear Tomorrow and Tinnitus sufferer, took part in a live interview morning March 22 for the
2nd National Tinnitus Awareness Day. His interview went out on FM radio and successfully helped raise awareness of tinnitus, especially
among young people. Noise-induced Tinnitus is a potential risk to all those who are working musicians, sound engineers, vocalists.
Damage is a consequence of exposure time as much as volume and therefore the potential danger exists all the time, when rehearsing as
much as when performing. This is what Danny had to say to Hear Tomorrow. (The following is a quotation from Danny)
"As someone who has suffered from tinnitus for over 8 years now i was delighted to be able to help highlight the need for more
awareness about the condition. I wanted to try and stop people who have healthy hearing from giving themselves tinnitus but I also
wanted to offer comfort and hope to those who may have only just realised they have it. The first few months are the worst. Eventually
you do learn to live with the condition seeing it as just more proof along with the sound of your breathing and your heartbeat that you
are alive."
